Intro: Pixel-Art
Welcome to the Qubicle Guided Tour. On the following pages you will learn how Qubicle works. Each lecture has a short video sequence located on top of the page. The keywords shown in the videos are described below.
The Idea
All products start with an idea. The basic idea of Qubicle is to build a bridge between classic pixel-art and the third dimension. Pixel-art is best known from old video game consoles like the NES. Its characteristic style is driven by low resolution and reduced color palettes. Since modern computers are able to render millions of polygons to create virtual worlds in 3D, this form of computer graphics lost its relevance. Qubicle’s purpose is to transport pixel-art into the third dimension. It’s a tool to create 3D pixel-art.
Pixel-Art Classics
Nintendo’s original Donkey Kong from 1981 is one of the most successfull arcade games in video game history, surpassed only by Pacman.
Wonder Boy is a series of video games published by SEGA. The sprite shown in the video is taken from Wonder Boy in Monster Land (1987).
Street Fighter II is a series in Capcom’s Street Fighter saga. Street Fighter II is credited for starting the fighting game boom during the 1990s.
